Prefilter kit for Lime (total hardness)
Description
Basics
- Removes lime from the water (total hardness).
- Ideal for tea and coffee lovers.
- For the use with a Refill cartridge NF2. (To be ordered separately.)
- Perfect in combination with activated carbon cartridges.
- Reusable: Regenerable with a regeneration adaptor and regular cooking salt (please refer to the instruction manual).
- The degree of decalcification can be selected via two bypass bores in the refill cartridge NF2: 100%, 60% or 40% reduction of the total hardness.
- Optimal results are obtained at a flow rate of about 1 l/min. Depending on further utilised cartridges and line pressure we recommend a flow regulator 1,0 l/min.
- A test stick to determine the total hardness of the incomming water is included.
- Resins have a limited life period (12 months from filling date): So you should avoid excessive storage. After that date, the resin is usable as long as it's still moist.
Useful life
The yield of ion exchange resins depends on the lime content of the incoming water. The following table gives an overview of the filtration performance for a given total hardness and the opened bypass bores.
Total hardness in the raw water (°e) | 10 | 13 | 19 | 25 | 31 | 38 | 50 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Capacity without bypass (in L) | / | 360 | 250 | 180 | 155 | 130 | 90 |
Capacity with 1 x bypass (in L) | / | / | 400 | 290 | 250 | 200 | 150 |
Capacity with 2 x bypass (in L) | 1000 | 700 | 500 | 350 | / | / | / |
This is how it works
The water slowly flows by the ion exchange resin. Thereby the calcium and magnesium ions ( Ca2+, Mg2+) are replaced with sodium ions (Na+). The calcium (calcium carbonate: CaCO3) has now become sodium carbonate (Na2CO3). This salt does not cause insoluble incrustations and therefore it does not build up deposits.
